Nothing is more comforting than being in your own home during the holiday season with the ones you love so much. We’re so happy this has been made possible for your Aunt. It’s wonderful that you two can enjoy this holiday and these precious moments together at home. That truly is something to be thankful for. We’re so glad we can provide such great care to her and we’re sure she’s enjoying the time she’s getting to spend with you. I am thankful that I have had the opportunity to tell her all the things I should've told her more often over the years. Yes, she is dying, and while it seems cruel and unfair, I get to spend her last days with her. For that, I will be forever grateful. As for Hospice, you made this all possible. As she came closer to the end of her life, the caregiving became so difficult, not just due to her physical ailments but to the emotional suffering she faced. I work for Hospice of the Western Reserve so I got her involved with palliative care and soon after, Hospice services as soon as I could much to the dismay of her primary care physician. If it wasn't for the staff and volunteers who helped me care for her, I would have lost my mind. They kept us both calm and level headed even at the worst times. It made our relationship less of a patient/caregiver and more of a grandma/granddaughter. I could never have made it through without Hospice! I was a caregiver for my nana for about 5 years.
