The Hospice Institute promotes excellence in end-of-life care through knowledge, education and research.
Created in 1997, it is the only such institute in Ohio.
With more than 30 years of experience caring for patients and families dealing serious illness, Hospice of the Western Reserve provides expertise in hospice and palliative care with articles, presentations and by serving as a resource to the community, universities and the media. Our End of Life Library is a virtual, special library that provides an online catalog, virtual library services and professional librarian assistance.
The Hospice Institute offers educational opportunities for students of all disciplines, allied health professionals and physicians. The Institute is a continuing education provider for social workers, counselors, nurses and physicians. Additional education opportunities are provided for other healthcare professionals by request. The Institute’s continuing education programs cover informative subject matters about end-of-life care such as pain and symptom control, the grieving process, the disease process, patient and caregiver needs and more.
In collaboration with area universities, Hospice of the Western Reserve actively engages in research advancing the science of hospice and palliative care. Studies aim to improve care of patients and families dealing with advanced illness.
