Supporting Traumatic Grief in the School Setting

This workshop will be led by staff from The Elisabeth Severance Prentiss Bereavement Center of Hospice of the Western Reserve. It is designed to assist school personnel (teaching and support staff) deepen their understanding of how trauma affects children and adolescents in a school setting.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:

  • Define School Related Trauma.
  • Discuss Traumatic Grief.
  • Define Traumatic Grief in Children & Adolescents.
  • Describe Trauma Interventions used in treating Traumatic Grief.
  • Identify the benefits of art and mindfulness when treating Traumatic Grief.

9:00-9:40 a.m. Defining School Related Trauma
9:40-10:05 a.m. Discuss Traumatic Grief
10:05-10:35 a.m. Defining Traumatic Grief in Children and Adolescents (15 minute break within this session)
10:35-11:05 a.m. Describing Traumatic Interventions used in treating Traumatic Grief
11:05 a.m. -Noon Identifying the benefits of art and mindfulness when treating Traumatic Grief
Noon -12:15 p.m. Wrap up/Questions and Answers
