Public Policy
*New Advance Directives Forms and Advance Care Planning
Dozens of groups compete for your legislators' attention and support. Advocacy allows constituents to inform legislators about their needs and concerns. Unless we tell them (i.e., advocate) legislators will never know or understand the challenges associated with end of life care. Advocacy allows the voice of one person to make a tremendous difference for entire groups of people. Advocacy is community mobilization that influences decision-makers. Advocacy gives voice to those who cannot speak for themselves. Hospice of the Western Reserve is committed to advocating for policies and services that enhance end of life care.
The Ohio Hospice and Palliative Care Advocacy Network (OHPCAN) works with Ohio hospices to educate and inform political leaders about issues related to end-of-life and palliative care. Elected officials pay close attention to letters and phone calls from their constituents. OHPCAN allows Ohioans to address end-of-life care issues with a united voice. Anyone interested in advocating for end-of-life and palliative care issues can join OHPCAN by completing the form below and returning it to: OHPCAN, c/o Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 East 185th Street, Cleveland OH 44119-1330, or email the below requested information to advocate@hospicewr.org.
As a member of OHPCAN, Hospice of the Western Reserve will identify your elected officials, provide sample letters you can use to formulate personal correspondence, and keep you informed of successes resulting from your involvement.
