Volunteer Opportunities
Hospice volunteers are ordinary people of all ages with an extraordinary love and a common bond concern for others. They contribute to the overall well being of our community one person, one family at a time. Volunteers help in many ways and are limited only by their imagination.
- Supportive Visit Volunteer: Interact with patients and families, providing respite and companionship
- Alternative Home Care Volunteer: Interact with patients in a nursing or assisted living facility
- Hospice House Volunteer: Work with staff at David Simpson Hospice House, providing respite visits, participating in activities and assisting with direct patient care
- Bereavement Volunteer: Provide support to grieving families via phone calls or assisting with support groups
- Support Volunteer: Assist with clerical projects, mailings, data entry and phone support at all office locations
- Professional Volunteer: Utilize their professional skills in their volunteer work, such as lawyers, accountants, beauticians and notaries
- Family & Friends Volunteer: Assist patients and their families by doing simple household chores, such as laundry, yard work and light housekeeping
- Phone Support Volunteer: Make supportive phone calls on weekends to cardiopulmonary patients and their caregivers
- Resale Shop Volunteer: Work in Hospice of the Western Reserve’s Resale Shop in Lyndhurst, accepting and sorting donations, assisting customers and donors and displaying and pricing merchandise
- Community Outreach Rep: Help increase public awareness about hospice and palliative care by networking, staffing information tables and providing presentations
- Navigator Volunteer: Work specifically with the Navigator Program, helping patients ‘navigate’ the healthcare system
- Veteran Serving Veterans Volunteer: Veteran’s sharing a life experience creates a feeling of camaraderie that helps establish trust. Understanding military history can be a useful tool for hospices as they try to break the silence that often surrounds the war experience, and can act as a catalyst for discussions about end-of-life preferences.
Hear from our volunteers about their experiences.
