Spring is here and it’s the perfect time to introduce a breath of fresh air into your home. Before paying full retail, it’s worth exploring a few options in your own backyard. Shopping the Warehouse Sales, held four times annually at Hospice of the Western Reserve’s Headquarters, 17876 St. Clair, Cleveland, and visiting Life’s Treasures, 317 S. Court St., Medina are two ways to save a bundle while benefiting hospice.

Warehouse Sales
Warehouse Sales, run by the nonprofit agency’s volunteer staff, feature gently used furniture, antiques, household accessories, jewelry, seasonal items and more. Matching sets of china, glassware and antiques and collectibles are frequently available.

Linda Perlic, Volunteer Team Leader for the Warehouse Sales, has managed them since their inception and works with a team of about 12 volunteers. “It’s an ongoing process; everyone lends their own expertise,” she said. The team meets regularly and begins coordinating the next sale about a week after the current sale has ended. Popularity has grown tremendously as word spreads in the community.”

Amy Bell of Beachwood shops the Warehouse Sales often. “I found a gorgeous upscale sectional at an unbelievable price,” she said. Part of the fun is browsing for treasures. There’s something new around every corner. The best part is knowing I am supporting such a worthy cause.”

Life's Treasures Thrift Shop
Generous individuals and retailers donate new and gently used furniture, housewares, antiques, clothing and more to Life’s Treasures, the resale shop operated by Hospice of Medina County, an affiliate of Hospice of the Western Reserve. All revenues benefit patients and families in Medina County.
New furniture arrives every Monday, and the store holds a 50 percent off sale the last Thursday of every month. Patio furniture is especially popular in the spring. The store also features a picture gallery, seasonal merchandise, a clothing boutique, lighting fixtures, medical equipment, kitchen merchandise and more.

Ken Melcher of Medina recently donated several pieces of furniture, all of which sold in a single day. “It’s a great little shop,” he said. “Everyone is always so friendly there. I’m glad to donate because I know proceeds will help families in Medina.”
