May 26 Veterans Honor Run in Avon Lake to Benefit Valor Home and Nine Line Foundation


Join us in Avon Lake on Sunday, May 26, for the 7th annual Veterans Honor Run presented by Hospice of the Western Reserve. Participants and their families and friends are invited to wear their best red, white, and blue to show their support! This year’ s event benefits Valor Home in Lorain and the Nine Line Foundation. Valor Home is a transitional housing program for homeless male veterans. The Nine Line Foundation is a national charity dedicated to meeting the financial and specialized needs of severely injured soldiers and their families.

The event will kick off at Avon Lake High School, 175 Avon Belden Rd., with ample parking available in the high school parking lot. Participants will follow a course through the streets of Avon Lake and Kopf Park for a Half-Half Marathon, 5k, Ruck Race, and Kid’s Fun Run. The final stretch of the race will be lined with flags in honor of our nation’s veterans and their sacrifice.

Registration is $4 for the Kids Run (ages 1-13), $17 for the 1-mile Walk or $5K or $27 for the Half-Marathon.  Registration and additional information are available online at Checks payable to “Runiversity” may also be mailed to: 585 Columbia Rd., Bay Village, OH 44140. Advance packet pickup is available Friday, May 24, 5 to 8 p.m. at Railroad Brewing Company, 1010 Center Rd, Avon, OH 44011.

The day of the event, packet pick up begins at 7 a.m. The Kid’s Run begins at 8 a.m. followed by the Half-Marathon at 8:20 a.m., 5K and Ruck Race at 8:30 a.m. and 1-Mile at 8:40 a.m. Award presentations and raffle drawings will take place at 10 a.m.  A post-race party is planned at 11 a.m. at the Railroad Brewing Company. 

Five hundred hundred runners and walkers are expected to gather for the annual chip-timed run and post-race raffle. This event was founded and produced by students in the Avon Lake High School Key Club and their passion has helped raise thousands of dollars every year for local and national veteran organizations.
