Roz Frabotta Earns "Excellence in Volunteer Service" Award


At its Annual Conference in Columbus, LeadingAge Ohio presented Hospice of the Western Reserve volunteer Roz Frabotta with its Excellence in Volunteer Service award. The nonprofit organization represents approximately 500 Ohio healthcare organizations, hospices, healthcare and housing services in more than 150 cities.

What Happens in Hospice When Family is Unavailable?


I am meeting Pat on a beautiful afternoon in her light-filled University Circle apartment. A dazzling array of exotic orchids are in full bloom on her windowsills. The historic building is not far from Case Western Reserve University, where Pat enjoyed a successful career as executive assistant to the director at the Hearing and Speech Center for 12 years, administrator at the Law School for 13 years, followed by administrator in Medical Education at the medical school for seven years. We are joined by her Teacup Poodle companion, Casey of the Western Reserve, named for her former employer.

Hospice Dog Makes House Call


When Jim Cerny confided to his hospice social worker how much he missed having a dog, that was all she needed to hear. 

Soon afterwards, Mojo made a house call to Cerny and his wife, Kathleen, who live in Mentor, Ohio, to spread some holiday cheer. Mojo, a 10-year-old rescue dog, is part Shih Tzu and part Lhasa Apso.
