Patient, Volunteer, Submariner Honored for 50 Years of Service


Navy veteran Dave Buchholz, a longtime Hospice of the Western Reserve Resale Shop volunteer, was inducted into the “Holland Club” on June 27. The ceremony at his house included fellow submariners, fellow hospice volunteers and plenty of family and friends, including his wife Ginny and son Andy. (Sons Hank and Stephen were unable to attend.)

Q.  How would you introduce yourself in two sentences?
A.  Hi, I’m Tom Hayes. I’m the new librarian.

Q. What is the most surprising thing you’ve learned about our collection?
A.  That we have multiple copies of titles available at several different locations to accommodate the coverage area of Hospice of the Western Reserve, including titles in all Ashtabula County public libraries thanks to the generosity of the Richard H. Baldwin family.

Hospice Pediatric Program Allows Grandparents to Nurture Infant

When Crystal Luster and her husband rushed to the NICU at Akron Children’s Hospital to see their newborn grandchild, Jaichele Gulley, they received a diagnosis no family is prepared to hear. The premature infant had severe congenital anomalies of the brain that precluded any possibility of long-term survival. Hospice of the Western Reserve with the specialized pediatric team stepped in to assist.

Linda Perlic Honored for Warehouse Sale Leadership


Hospice of the Western Reserve Volunteer Linda Perlic was honored for her work on the organization’s Warehouse Sales by Midwest Care Alliance on Nov. 12, 2014.  Jeff Lycan, President/CEO of Midwest Care Alliance, presented Linda with the Honorable Recognition certificate at a reception at Hospice of the Western Reserve’s headquarters.
