Jeff Kovacs Named Chief Financial Officer, Hospice of the Western Reserve


​Jeff Kovacs has been named Chief Financial Officer, Hospice of the Western Reserve (HWR). He succeeds long-time CFO John Harvan, who retired earlier this year. In his new financial leadership role, Kovacs leads the accounting and finance functions of the nonprofit agency, including financial reporting, budgeting, banking relationships and general business operations.

​U.S. Navy World War II veteran Samuel “Sam” Showman, age 92, was recently honored for his service during a virtual veteran’s recognition ceremony coordinated by Hospice of the Western Reserve (HWR) volunteer service manager Tina Thonnings.

World War II Veteran James Shelby Honored


​World War II veteran James “Jim” Shelby was honored for his service recently at his son’s home in Mayfield Village by his Hospice of the Western Reserve (HWR) home care team. The nonprofit agency conducted a virtual veterans recognition ceremony, bringing together Mr. Shelby, his family and loved ones through the use of remote technology. Taking part in the virtual ceremony were Mr. Shelby’s daughter, Helen; his sons, Kevin and Dennis; his girlfriend Doris and her daughters Linda and Cindi. Hospice social worker Kristine Burkwood, RN Sarah Orosz and volunteer service manager Tina Thonnings were also present.

Corporal Robert “Denny” Mooney, Sr. Honored for Distinguished Military Service


​World War II veteran and Purple Heart recipient Corporal Robert “Denny” Mooney, Sr. was recently honored for his distinguished service to the country. Approximately 20 family members gathered with Mr. Mooney on the front porch at his home in Pepper Pike for a virtual veterans recognition ceremony planned by Hospice of the Western Reserve (HWR). Volunteer Don Stark, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam as a Lance Corporal, presided over the ceremony via remote technology. Members of the hospice care team also participated.

Life’s Treasures Re-Opens with Enhanced Safety Measures

​Life’s Treasures has re-opened for business after implementing the prescribed safety protocols for retail establishments issued by the State of Ohio and CDC. Revised hours for the store are Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
