Three Daughters Grateful for “Circle of Comfort” in their Mom’s Home

Dear Hospice of the Western Reserve Staff,

Our Mom, Mary Buckner, was so fortunate to spend her final days in her own home under your care. We cannot say enough about what that meant to us, and, on some level, the comfort she herself probably experienced as a result of being able to die in her home in her own bed. It was especially meaningful to the three of us, her daughters.

Blair’s Bucket List: Renew Vows


“There wasn’t a dry eye to be had.”

So starts Debbie Galasky’s story of her and her husband, Blair’s, unexpected vow renewal ceremony. Debbie and Blair had always wanted a ceremony, but when Blair’s cancer became terminal, five years ago, it was forgotten.  

Debbie remembers how difficult it was for them to come to terms with Blair’s condition: “It was overwhelming.” Their grief replaced thoughts of a vow renewal celebration. “In the beginning we couldn’t look at each other without crying,” explains Debbie.

Molly’s Garden

“She would have loved it. She would have loved that everyone else is getting so much joy out of it,” says George Goodwin when asked how his wife Molly would feel about the new Molly Bliss Goodwin Garden at David Simpson Hospice House.

George was so moved by his and Molly’s hospice experience that, after her death, he became a David Simpson Hospice House hands-on volunteer. Additionally, George knew that he wanted to make a significant gift in memory of Molly—something lasting and beautiful. After discussing options with development staff, George decided that creating a memorial garden was the ideal way to honor his wife while bringing solace and pleasure to others.

Having Hospice Closer to Home


Our patient Linda knew more about hospice care and Hospice of the Western Reserve than most—she was an oncology nurse. Throughout her career she cared for thousands of patients and comforted countless families. When her own disease progressed beyond the point of treatment, Linda was very definitive in her choice of care providers.
