Veterans Invited to Register for Public Recognition Ceremony Nov. 7 in Medina


​Veterans from all branches of the United States Armed Forces and their families are invited to a free luncheon and public Veterans Recognition Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Williams on the Lake, 87 Lafayette Road in Medina. The event is hosted by Hospice of Medina County and Hospice of the Western Reserve. Doors will open at 11 a.m. Registration is available online at or by calling 216-502-4440 or www.hospicewr.org/medinaVRC. The deadline to register is Nov. 1.

World War II Veteran Honored for Service by Hospice of the Western Reserve


As a soldier in the U.S. Army serving in the European theater, PFC Robert (Bob) Roth participated in one of the defining historical events of the 20th century: World War II. After the war, he served as a guard at the Nuremberg trials, a series of military tribunals convened by the Allied forces to prosecute Nazi war criminals.

A Hero's Welcome


Honor Flight Cleveland is part of a network of nonprofit organizations with the shared mission of paying tribute to U.S. veterans by providing them safe, memorable, and all-expense-paid trips to Washington, D.C. The trips include visits to the national memorials that honor their service. In August 2014, Charles Platia took part in an Honor Flight Cleveland trip with nearly 50 veterans and their escorts. Videographer Don Pavlish and I both had the privilege of accompanying the veterans to document the day's events.
