Hospice of the Western Reserve has always been about people - patients, families and the community we serve. As Northeast Ohio’s population ages and medical needs grow more complex, we’re rising to meet the moment with the Quality of Life campaign - an ambitious effort to reimagine how hospice care is delivered in our region.
Launched in response to increasing demand, the campaign is funding more than just a building. It’s an investment in the future of compassionate, patient-centered care. The Quality of Life campaign will support the construction of a brand-new Hospice Care & Community Center in Cleveland’s North Collinwood neighborhood. It will replace the current Hospice House on East 185th Street, which, since opening in 1995, has served more than 1,100 patients a year and countless families.
But after nearly three decades of service, the needs of our community - and the challenges of modern care - have outgrown the space. The new facility is the next step.
Set to open in 2026, every inch of the building is being designed with purpose. We have partnered with E4H, a leading architecture firm specializing in nonprofit healthcare, to bring this vision to life.
This project isn’t just about physical space. It’s about people. Most of the care we provide - 95% of it - happens in patients’ homes, whether that’s a private residence, a nursing home, or an assisted living facility. But when intensive care is needed - especially for complex symptoms or crisis support - our inpatient units (IPUs) step in. These units are essential. Without them, many patients would have no choice but to go to the hospital.
The new Hospice Care & Community Center will focus on General Inpatient Care while also serving as a hub for bereavement support, educational outreach, and family-focused events.
What began in 1995 as Ohio’s first inpatient hospice facility has grown into a regional leader in end-of-life care. Now, we’re building on that legacy to ensure every Northeast Ohioan can experience dignity, comfort and peace at the end of life.
